Global portrait of Rachel Nantel work, Pharmacy Technical Assistant Advisor.
Since February, Rachel Nantel has the position of Pharmacy Technical Assistant Advisor here at Pharmapar. To date, she is the only known person with that position; a new concept to offer more added value to the pharmacists.
The young lady, who completed almost two Bachelors (one in chemistry and the other in biochemistry) and worked for 7 years as a part-time PTA Advisor, was meant to fit the job.
Added Value offered
Just to give a little background, it can be very painstaking to have two different inventories when managing a pharmaceutical lab inventory. In order to help the pharmacists deal with such an unpleasant event, the PTA Advisor takes over to accomplish several missions that will improve the situation.
The Advisor’s schedule being very atypical, she trains the pharmacies’ lab employees to perform different tasks so as to recognize privately insured customers and deal with them in a different fashion. Within that framework, you’ll find a list of the tasks performed in the pharmacy by the PTA Advisor, but also by Pharmapar’s representative.
- Following the private insurance potential analysis for each pharmacy and the implementation of an action plan related to previous private insurance business development by Pharmapar Representative, the Advisor performs a monthly action plan follow-up. Basically, she analyzes substitution rates between generic and original drugs sold in pharmacies, in order to assess efficiency from the action plan implemented.
- Once on site in the pharmacy, and in cooperation with a representative, the PTA Advisor can solve problems ranging to billing errors. Once in the pharmacy, she trains the lab team and specifically talks about the molecule prioritization method. Basically this means for the PTA Advisor to implement a computerized system designed to recognize generic drugs molecules available for privately insured individuals.
When asked about her job, Rachel mentions that her main goal is to offer a specialized mentorship among Québécois pharmacies lab employees. ‘’Being a PTA Advisor in my case means being present on site; my job is 90% presence and 10% adaptation!’’ Of course Rachel also states that human relationships are instrumental in her work. She explains Pharmapar’s concept, she teaches molecules prioritization system to lab employees, she answers their questions and gets involved some more.
